Itinerary

Day 1
Jan 24

Papeete

Papeete is the center of the tropical paradise of French Polynesia, where islands fringed with gorgeous beaches and turquoise ocean await to soothe the soul. This spirited city is the capital of French Polynesia and serves as a superb base for further exploration of Tahiti - an island of breathtaking landscapes and oceanic vistas. A wonderful lagoon of crisp, clear water begs to be snorkeled, stunning black beaches and blowholes pay tribute to the island's volcanic heritage, and lush green mountains beckon you inland on adventures, as you explore extraordinary Tahiti. Visit to relax and settle into the intoxicating rhythm of life in this Polynesian paradise.

Day 2
Jan 25

Bora Bora

Bora Bora is a tiny little gem, less than 12 square meters in the heart of the South Pacific.  It remains on many peoples travel wish list. While a hot spot for honeymooners it should not stop those with wanderlust for exotic destinations. The lagoon is nothing short of breathtaking and the commanding presence of Mount Otemanu anchors the unspoilt beauty of this destination. This island never disappoints.  And, you can swim with sharks and mantarays.

Day 3
Jan 26

Raiatea, French Polynesia

This is the ‘Sacred Island,’ and continues to intrigue archaeologists and historians given the rich and deep Polynesian culture. Older Polynesian structures are still in place and are fascinating places to explore. In the 16th century, Raiatea developed a powerful cult dedicated to Oro the God of War, and built a large meeting ground, the Taputaputea Marae, which is still intact. Human sacrifice (gulp!) was practiced until around the middle of the 18th century. Several tour operators run visits to the marae (ancient temples) and their storytelling is based on fact however embellishment adds to the flavour of these tours. Enjoy a powerboat or outrigger canoe trip through the Faaroa Gorge for spectacular jungle scenery and possibly some tropical bird sightings if you are lucky.  Trekkers can head up Mount Temehani, a well-known landmark that's said to be Oro's birthplace, keeping in mind this is a demanding experience.

Day 4
Jan 27

Raiatea, French Polynesia (Day 2)

There is time to explore this incredible stop just a bit longer.  Don't miss out as this remote destination may be a once in a life time experience.

Day 5

Day At Sea

Enjoy a leisurely day onboard the Silver Whisper.

Day 6
Jan 29

Fakarava, Tuamotu Archipelago

This idyllic atoll is famed for its incredible biodiversity and breathtaking underwater scenery (including a ‘wall of sharks!’). Diving enthusiasts come from all over the world to swim with the majestic gray sharks in the waters of Fakarava, explore the coral reef and drop-off, and admire the sea turtles, rays, barracudas and a host of other marine species. A veritable natural sanctuary where each dive is even more magical and thrilling than the last.

Day 7
Jan 30

Day at Sea

Enjoy another day on the ship as we head towards our next port of call.  Their barista area is a great spot to enjoy the scenery, meet up with people and enjoy excellent specialty coffees.  And can you say afternoon nap!

Day 8
Jan 31

Nuku Hiva, Marquesas Islands

Nuku Hiva is the second largest after Tahiti in the archipelago but remains off the beaten path from tourism. Enjoy towering mountains, beautiful harbours and believe it or not, one of the world's highest waterfalls. The island is known for deep and unpolluted waters, vibrant and lush forests and the occasional sacred statue found around the island.  And for the literary types, Herman Melville lived among the indigenous people where he was inspired to write his books Typee and Omoo.

Day 9
Feb 01

Fatu Hiva, Marquesas Islands

Fatu Hiva is the most remote island in the Marquesas Group. It is known as “the Uknown Paradise”  Steep cliffs, sharp mountain peaks, and many narrow valleys form an impressive obstacle when exploring this volcanic island. The lush outpost is a centre for Marquesan crafts.  You will witness women making Tapa, a cloth made from tree bark. Tapa making is a traditional craft that is an all but forgotten art in the islands so you will be watching history form through the hands of these women.  This is truly a step into another world, a place where few people ever get to.

Day 10
Feb 02

Atuona - Hiva Oa, Marquesas Island

The island, shaped like a seahorse has a mountain range running southwest to northeast and the main peaks, Mt. Temetiu and Mt. Feani form a real wall around the port Atuona. Thisis the final resting place of Paul Gauguin.  You can visit the tombs, a pilgrimage destination for some.  Don't miss the Gauguin Museum filled with displays related to the painter's stay at the beginning of the century.

Day 11
Feb 03

Tahuata, Marquesas Islands,

This is the tiniest inhabited island of the archipelago, with only 700 inhabitants. This croissant-shaped piece of land has been a dreamy destination for many travelers. Admire Meae Ufa, a 3,181-foot volcano, and the stunning twin bays Ivaiva Nui and Ivaiva Iti. Indulge your senses with the tiaré oil (coconut oil infused with the tiaré flower).  The craftsmen excel at carving beautiful pieces, spears, puzzles, dishes they produce on bone or rosewood and this reputation is well known around the islands. While on the island a must do is to take a swim at Hana Moenoa Beach known for its beauty and if you are lucky you will encounter sea turtles - look but don't touch please!

Day 12
Feb 04

Day at Sea

This is your final day at sea so enjoy the many amenities on the beautiful Silver Whisper

Day 13
Feb 05

Rangiroa, French Polynesia

Rangiroa the largest atoll in French Polynesia. The lagoon s enclosed by more than 400 motus (islets).  This is where drift diving and snorkeling is excellent on the incoming tides.  Look for sharks and manta rays. The lagoon’s calm turquoise waters, rich marine underwater world, and relaxed atmosphere attract visitors year-round. One of Rangiroa’s most unusual attractions is the white and rose wine produced on the islet immediately west of Avatoru - the wine has won several awards. This is a must try experience for vinophiles.

Day 14
Feb 06

Moorea, French Polynesia

Moorea is a high mountainous island with eight peaks creating a rugged silhouette. Size wise it is a fraction of neighbouring Tahiti and is much more relaxed.  Easy to get around as there is a ring road around the island where you will enjoy small villages, and you can venture into the interior to visit a pineapple plantation.  This is a relaxing stop offering a laid back style.

Day 15
Feb 07

Papeete, French Polynesia

Today is disembarkation day after a luxurious experience through French Polynesia.  Perhaps you can stay longer in an overwater bungalow at the Intercontinental Resort or carry on to other island groups while exploring the South Pacific.
